CSSE Statement on Joint FBI-DHS Intelligence Bulletin
Washington, D.C. – In response to a joint intelligence bulletin from the FBI and Department of Homeland Security warning of “follow-on or retaliatory attacks” against “election-related targets” following the attempted assassination of former President Trump, the Committee for Safe and Secure Elections issued the following statement:
“The Committee for Safe and Secure Elections remains steadfast in our commitment to supporting the safety of election officials and voters during elections. Last weekend’s tragic shooting and the new warnings from the FBI and Department of Homeland Security underscore why election officials and law enforcement across the country have diligently been preparing for this election. In fact, 92% of local election officials have taken steps, such as increasing physical security at their offices or polling locations, to increase election security since the 2020 election. There is no place for violence in American politics, and establishing effective partnerships between law enforcement and election officials is an important step that can help maintain safety for all.
“From tabletop exercises to our state-specific Law Enforcement Quick Reference Guides (e.g., Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin) to our five-step guide to safer elections, our practical resources remain available to support this ongoing work. We hope these resources and Committee members can be helpful as election officials and law enforcement across the country finalize their plans for administering a safe and secure election this fall.”
