President Biden honors Al Schmidt with the Presidential Citizens Medal

January 6, 2023 – On behalf of the Committee for Safe and Secure Elections, we would like to congratulate our member, Al Schmidt, for receiving the Presidential Citizens Medal today from President Biden in recognition of his heroic work to protect our democracy during his time as Philadelphia City Commissioner. This comes on the heels of the announcement that Josh Shapiro, Pennsylvania’s incoming Democratic governor, will nominate Schmidt to serve as Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth, where he will be dedicated to protecting and expanding voting rights for all eligible voters. Though election officials and workers are prepared to work tirelessly behind the scenes, it is fantastic to see Al and others being recognized and honored for their critical work at the frontlines of securing our democratic institutions.
