Election Security & Law Enforcement: Why All 50 States Need Election Response Guides Ahead of 2026

The Committee for Safe and Secure Elections (CSSE) has released updated Law Enforcement Quick Reference Guides for all 50 states and Washington, D.C., helping law enforcement and election officials prepare for election security threats ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Strong partnerships between election officials and law enforcement are one of the most important ingredients for safe, secure, and trusted elections.

That’s why the Committee for Safe and Secure Elections (CSSE) is proud to announce the release of updated Law Enforcement Quick Reference Guides for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

To mark this milestone, CSSE has released a new video featuring founding members Kathy Boockvar, former Pennsylvania Secretary of State, and Neal Kelley, former Orange County Registrar of Voters. Together, they reflect on the importance of preparation, communication, and collaboration between the professionals who administer elections and the public safety leaders who help protect them.

The state-specific guides provide law enforcement officers with concise, practical information about election laws, polling place operations, and election-related response considerations. Designed for use in the field, the guides help officers quickly understand their role and responsibilities when responding to election-related incidents.

Since its founding, CSSE has worked to strengthen relationships between election officials and law enforcement through training, resource development, and scenario-based exercises. The updated guides are a cornerstone of that effort and reflect CSSE’s ongoing commitment to helping communities prepare for future elections.

Whether you’re an election official, sheriff, police chief, deputy, or public safety professional, these resources are designed to support the shared goal of ensuring every voter can participate in our democracy safely and confidently.
