The Committee for Safe and Secure Elections Recognizes Georgia and Maryland’s Efforts to Protect Election Officials

February 22, 2024 – “The Committee for Safe and Secure Elections takes note of the recent legislative efforts in Georgia and Maryland aimed at protecting election officials from threats of violence. This is a critical step forward in the ongoing effort to ensure the safety and security of those who are at the forefront of our elections.

In recent years, we have witnessed an alarming increase in threats directed at election workers. Threatening or attacking election workers and voters is unacceptable, and holding perpetrators accountable is critical to deterring such behavior in the future. We believe that every election official has the right to perform their duties without fear of intimidation or violence, and the Committee for Safe and Secure Elections remains committed to working with lawmakers, election officials, law enforcement, and others to ensure the safety of election officials and the security of our democracy.”
