CSSE Launches New Training Video Featuring Former Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone on Partnerships for Election Security

March 11, 2024 – The Committee for Safe and Secure Elections (CSSE) is pleased to share our new training video featuring CSSE member and former Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone. This resource is designed to serve as a valuable tool for law enforcement agencies and election officials across the country as they prepare for upcoming elections.

In the video, Sheriff Penzone draws on his extensive 30-year career in law enforcement to underscore the importance of building strong partnerships within and outside of organizations. He highlights the rise in threats against election officials and infrastructure in recent years and emphasizes the critical role law enforcement plays in collaboration with election officials to safeguard elections staff and voters.

“Threatening election officials is something that may be accepted in some places around the world, but not here, not in America,” Sheriff Penzone asserts.

The resource outlines practical steps for law enforcement and election officials to work together effectively, drawing from CSSE’s Five Steps to Safer Elections and emphasizing the necessity of mutual understanding, information sharing, and clear communication to establish collaborative frameworks. Sheriff Penzone stresses the importance of defining rules of engagement, planning responses to incidents, and conducting tabletop exercises to ensure preparedness.
